Patient-156

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-156 went to Dr. Michael Bradford at Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center for a knee replacement. On the day of surgery, the patient waited in the pre-op area for several hours, but Dr. Bradford never showed up. The patient was NOT given an explanation for Dr. Bradford's absence, and Dr. Bradford would not respond to the patient's phone calls.

Dr. Michael Bradford (with Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center) was assigned as my surgeon for my knee replacements.

He seemed encouraging at my first appointment. But later, he had a substitute assistant (not even one of his regular assistants) do my pre-op appointment. She was NOT able to answer any of my questions (for example, how long will it take my incisions to heal, and other basic questions).

  • Note to readers: Why was there a substitute assistant for this patient's appointment (even though Nevada Orthopedic has several physician assistants in their office)? And why couldn't she answer any basic questions? Was she really a physician's assistant?

I went ahead with the process because I was cleared for surgery by my primary care physician.

Dr. Bradford NEVER SHOWED UP (for my surgery).

And he never contacted me to explain why.

So, now I am struggling to find a new surgeon and will have to spend several more months getting through the process.

Thanks for nothing, Dr. Bradford!!

Modern Medicine, Unnecessary Procedures and Breakthroughs in Non-Surgical Healing

for Joint and Back Pain

Joint and back surgeries are on the rise, not only in the United States but around the world. Yet surgical interventions are costly and pose substantial health risks, with no guarantee of successful outcomes. In many cases, surgical outcomes are no better, and sometimes worse than, the outcomes of conservative care.

It is impossible to explain the increase in unnecessary procedures without addressing the twin elephants in the room: The rising cost and diminishing quality of healthcare in the United States.

According to US government statistics, an estimated 7.5 million unnecessary medical and surgical procedures are performed each year in the United States, with about 8.9 million unnecessary hospital stays.

Many joint and back surgeries have little to no scientific evidence to support them, yet they are performed by the thousands each year. Some routine surgeries have been performed for decades with no better outcomes than physical therapy and regenerative treatment.

In many cases, the side effects of surgery are worse than the original condition. Sadly, surgeons tend to downplay negative side effects and often fail to disclose realistic recovery timelines.

Joint and back surgery carry with them high risks, with no guarantee of success. When you factor in the many drugs involved, the declining standards of patient care, and the out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the patient, most surgeries should be an absolute last resort.

Nevada Orthopedic, Patient-156, how a second opinion could save you from unnecessary knee surgery

GET THE FACTS ABOUT JOINT REPLACEMENTS

According to published results reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Arthritis & Rheumatology Journal, up to 1/3 of hip and knee replacement surgeries are UNNECESSARY.

  • In 34 percent of cases evaluated, the surgery was deemed to be inappropriate, with expected risks outweighing the benefits. The rest of the cases, 22 percent, were considered inconclusive, with risks and benefits approximately equal.

  • The study found that only 44 percent of surgeries were classified as appropriate, meaning the expected benefits outweighed the likely risks for that patient.

Unnecessary joint replacement surgeries cost Americans approximately $8.3 billion per year.

Read the article posted on March 20, 2023, titled "I'm in constant pain. Meet the one-third of patients who regret knee replacement surgery."

  • Up to one-third of patients who have knee replacement surgery continue to experience chronic pain after the operation, and one in five patients are dissatisfied with the results of the procedure.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Get a second opinion before you sign up for joint replacement surgery.

Remember, for the doctors and hospitals, it's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.

  • James Rickert, president of the Society for Patient Centered Orthopedics, stated, "The doctor earns a lot more if they do the surgery" than if they treat knee pain by other means.
