Patient-50

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-50 is another patient who was harmed during a hip replacement surgery by Dr. Michael Bradford. He has been in pain for more than a year, and Dr. Bradford does nothing to help.

This story is told from the perspective of the patient’s wife.

We met Dr. Michael Bradford in 2024 to discuss options for my husband’s hip pain.

Dr. Bradford immediately suggested surgery, but he never gave us any instructions about what to do to prepare for the surgery or what to expect.

After the surgery, my husband was in a lot of pain and could not walk. Dr. Bradford just said it was normal, and it takes a while to heal.

Months went by, and Dr. Bradford kept saying the same thing: “Healing takes time.”

It was obvious my husband’s hip was not healing. He was still in a lot of pain and could barely walk. We asked for an X-ray.

When the X-ray report came in, Dr. Bradford merely said “The X-ray looks good.” That was it!! He offered no compassion, no comments about the pain or lack of mobility, and no options to further investigate or correct the problem.

He would frequently pull this trick of talking as little as possible. If we asked questions or tried to have a conversation about my husband’s condition, Dr. Bradford would use any excuse to leave the room –- saying he needed to check on a test or grab some paperwork -– and would say he would be right back. But he never came back to the room. He would send in an employee to give us our paperwork and send us out the door.

If we tried to talk to her or ask a question, the employee would say “That’s a question for the doctor, or I can’t answer that question, or the doctor is with another patient.”

Dr. Bradford did not care at all about my husband’s pain and suffering, and he offered no solutions.

Creepy experience in the surgery waiting area (read what happened)

I also need to tell you about the creepy experience we had in the surgery waiting area at Sunrise Hospital.

It was a long day, with a lot of people in the waiting area. As the night dragged on, we learned there were still 15 families waiting to see their loved ones. There were no employees anywhere. There was only a phone that we could use to call someone if we had a question.

As the hours ticked by and the 15 families began to compare notes, we discovered that none of us were allowed to see our loved ones in the Recovery area, and we did not get updates about the progress of their surgeries. We took turns and started using the phone on the desk. Each one of us was given the same answer, “We are still cleaning the room.”

The length of time and complete absence of any hospital employees was very unsettling and bizarre. What happened to our loved ones? Where were they? Why aren’t there any employees in the waiting area?

Eventually (4 hours later), I was given the room number for my husband when he was taken to a patient room, and some of the other families also started receiving the room numbers for their loved ones.

In hindsight, we should have went out as a group and searched the hospital until we found someone who could locate our loved ones.

As a reminder, take pictures of everything throughout the day of surgery and every day you are a patient at Sunrise Hospital. On surgery day, take a picture (every 15-20 minutes) of the large monitors on the walls that "allegedly" give updates on the progress of each patient's surgery. The information is frequently incorrect and not up to date with what is happening.

We are still searching for help for my husband, but the Las Vegas medical system is designed to protect the original surgeon by making sure the other surgeons in town refuse to help patients who have been harmed.

After our experience, I tell everyone not to go to Sunrise Hospital or Dr. Bradford. Protect your loved ones and choose a better hospital and a better surgeon.

REMINDER: You can choose to leave a hospital. Just ask for the AMA form (AMA means "against medical advice.") Comments posted on review websites have stated that Sunrise Hospital will try to force you to stay using scare tactics such as telling you that insurance won't pay if you leave. If you are not getting proper medical care or are being harmed or threatened, YOU CAN LEAVE SUNRISE HOSPITAL and go to a better hospital (or go to your primary care doctor or urgent care, depending on your medical situation).

Just say NO to hip replacement surgery

and just say NO to Sunrise Hospital
