Patient-184
No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital
Patient-184 went to Sunrise Hospital for surgery. Received very little medical care or assistance from nurses. She was poked multiple times for an IV. Nurse Debbie turned off the bed alarm and harassed the patient. Terrible experience. Patient says DO NOT COME HERE for medical assistance.
This was one of the most traumatic experiences I have ever had.
I was scheduled for a surgery on 02/20/2026. I went into surgery around 6 a.m. and was taken to a room around 10-12 later in the evening.
I called a nurse to help me get to the bathroom and 30 minutes to almost a hour waiting for a nurse to help me go to the bathroom. The assistant nurse Debbie came in and turned off my bed alarm only.
I was left to get up out of the bed on my own. She would NOT help me walk to the bathroom, and I had to hold onto the nearest wall or sink to get to the bathroom. Debbie then left the room and did not wait for me.
In the process of getting to the restroom, I started to feel more pain than I was in already. I had to ask my own father to help me get up from the restroom to the bed.
In that process, I hurt one of my incisions even more and was in terrible pain that shot from all on my left side of my waist to my shoulder.
I then called my mother and called the nurse again and asked to speak to a supervisor. The same assistant nurse (Debbie) came back and asked me what was wrong.
I proceeded to tell Debbie the assistant nurse to please leave me alone -- that I did not wish to speak to her and wanted a supervisor. I asked 3 times.
Debbie then proceeded to grab my hands and tell me quote on quote “but I’ve been so nice to you.”
My mother was watching everything on FaceTime and told Debbie to leave the room and that’s when she finally did.
We ended up with a supervisor, and my mom explained the situation. The supervisor even told us I shouldn’t have been walking on my own, and she (Debbie) should not have left me to walk on my own (and should have helped me to to restroom).
I was poked poorly for an IV and for blood work on both arms as well the nurse who did my IV did not know what she was doing and poked me three times. It was terribly painful when she poked me the second time.
I would not come here for medical treatment whatsoever.
I was left with a terrible experience.
Out of that whole week I was there, I had only one nurse who truly cared for me there. His name was Ricky -- a very sweet and caring nurse. He made sure when he took care of me that I was well and checked up on me frequently.
The rest of my experience was terrible.
DO NOT COME HERE for medical care -- especially if you get the assistant nurse named Debbie.

There are numerous patient stories about bad attempts at IV placement at Sunrise Hospital, with photos of many damaged arms.
These are two of the photos that were posted online by Patient-184, showing her injured arm due to bad attempts at IV placement.
