Patient-236
No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital
Patient-236 went to Dr. Bradley Baker at Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center. Less than 5 minutes with the patient and was reaching for the door as the patient was trying to talk with him. The doctor had no time to discuss the injury or answer questions. Only prescribed an injection.
Patient-236 went to Dr. Bradley Baker at Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center regarding a knee injury.
Unfortunately, Dr. Baker spent less than 5 minutes with me.
I have been fighting the health system to be seen for my knee for months. I was very excited to finally see an orthopedic doctor.
However, I was NOT given time for questions, and he was reaching for the door to leave as I was trying to speak with him.
Since this is a very scary event for me, effecting my quality of life, I would have expected more information.
Dr. Baker prescribed a shot (injection), and he basically said let's wait and see --- not addressing the injury I tried to tell him about.
(After Dr. Baker left the room) I had to ask questions of the nurse --- after the initial shock and not knowing how to advocate for myself in this situation.
The proactive mannerism I was hoping for was completely neglected.
Be prepared to research beforehand and know what to ask quickly before he leaves the room.
Medical Gaslighting
Have you ever felt like your doctor wasn't listening or dismissed your concerns entirely? You're not alone.
It's called medical gaslighting, and it can lead to delayed diagnosis, untreated conditions and lasting harm.
What are the signs of medical gaslighting?
Your provider continually interrupts you, won't let you elaborate and doesn't seem to be an engaged listener.
The provider minimizes or downplays symptoms, like questioning whether you have pain, or refuses to discuss your symptoms.
The provider won't order imaging or lab work to rule out or confirm a diagnosis.
You feel that the provider is rude, condescending or belittling.
If you are being mistreated or your concerns are being ignored or dismissed, find a better doctor.
