Patient-164
No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital
Patient-164 went to Sunrise Hospital with a broken tibia (shin bone). They left her waiting for hours in the hallway. The orthopedic surgeon wanted to rush her into surgery without discussing the treatment plan, risks or alternatives. When the patient asked for a second opinion, the doctor refused to treat her or sign the discharge paperwork.
My loved one had a terrible experience at Sunrise Hospital.
Despite being transferred with a broken tibia, she waited for hours in the Emergency Room hallway.
When she was seen by the orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Hubert, he rushed to recommend surgery (a rod and screws) without explaining the treatment plan or discussing risks and alternatives.
She was uncomfortable with the lack of communication, so she requested a wound cleaning and stabilization so she could seek a second opinion.
After making this request, the doctor refused to speak with her or sign the discharge paperwork --- and they left her waiting for another 12 hours without any conversation.
Patients deserve timely care and clear explanations of their treatment options.
Based on this experience, I will be avoiding Sunrise Hospital for future care.
