Patient-374

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-374 went to Sunrise Hospital. Serious concerns about communication, privacy, medication management, patient care, and billing. Patient never saw a doctor and never received his daily medications. The hospital tried to get the patient to stay longer, but he had not seen a doctor, he was improving, and there was no medical reason for him to stay. Patient left the hospital and went back to his home state.

Patient-374 went to Sunrise Hospital.

His wife posted the following comments:

My husband ended up at Sunrise Hospital while we were on vacation, and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing.

Based on what we experienced, I would NOT recommend Sunrise Hospital, if you have another option.

I waited in the Emergency Room (ER) for more than two hours before I was allowed to see my husband.

He had been brought in by ambulance, so I had not seen him at all.

When I was finally allowed back, I was told I could only stay for "three minutes."

Security requires visitors to wear a name tag while sitting in the waiting area. I have serious concerns about the privacy implications of having patients and visitors identified this way.

What was even more concerning was that, while I was told I could not be with my husband because there was supposedly no privacy, hospital employees came into the waiting area on several occasions and discussed patients' medical conditions within earshot of everyone sitting there.

My husband was eventually admitted and remained there for more than 24 hours, yet he never saw a doctor during his entire stay.

At one point, they wanted him to remain another night, despite there being no clear medical reason given for doing so. He was improving, and we had a flight to catch the following day.

Another major concern was that he was never given his regular daily medications, despite our requesting them several times.

His food order was also apparently never entered, resulting in a "late" meal tray that took another hour to arrive.

I contacted the  hospital after we left to express my concerns and was told they would be addressed.

Unfortunately, after receiving the bill that was submitted to our insurance, I am even more frustrated.

The charges are extraordinarily high, and based on the care and service we actually received, I cannot understand how the cost of this stay could be justified.

Overall, this experience left us with serious concerns about communication, privacy, medication management, patient care, and billing.

I hope the hospital takes these concerns seriously and uses them as an opportunity to improve.
