Patient-264

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-264 went to Sunrise Hospital for sinus surgery. One of the worst experiences of her life. Due to excessive blood loss during surgery, she was admitted. The doctor failed to put in an order for pain medication and would not respond to calls from the hospital. They told the patient to "suck it up." Patient was in extreme pain and continued to try to get help with no success. Eventually, she said she was going to call 911 and ask to be transferred to a better hospital, so the charge nurse finally showed up.

I had my sinus surgery here one week ago.

I was not very happy that my surgery was scheduled for 11 a.m. and moved to 5 p.m. However, that happens.

I was admitted overnight shortly after my surgery due to a lot more blood loss than was expected. However, my doctor failed to put in the orders for pain medication.

My nurse did say she was trying to get a hold of him but eventually gave up, and I was basically informed to suck it up.

I cannot express enough the pain I endured through the night.

I finally asked for the charge nurse and was refused, so I tried to call my doctor myself and his on-call center told me this was not an emergency and refused to page him.

So, I calmly explained to the nurse that if they did not call for help from some doctor, I was going to call 911 and request they move me to a hospital that treats their patients with care and humanity.

At that time, I was finally responded to with the charge nurse.

I explained the refusal of services endured from the M.A., and she refused to put the compressions stocking over my legs and turn it on when it is necessary as I am high risk for blood clots.

I was refused food when I first asked.

This was one of the worst experiences of my life. I hope nobody ever has to live through a traumatic experience like this again.

This will be brought to the attention of your medical board for the hospital as well as state licensing office for the safety of all future patients.
