Absolutely scary experience!
My 5 -year-old son had an allergic reaction to peanuts. It was a normal reaction for him because he is allergic to nuts. We took him to a neighborhood ER clinic to be checked out.
He got treatment at an ER clinic around 6 p.m., then was transferred at 9 p.m. to Sunrise Hospital for monitoring (4-6 hours).
He was stable, healthy and hungry during the transport to Sunrise Hospital.
We arrived at the Sunrise Hospital pediatric emergency room at 9:30 p.m., and they kept telling me my son is looking fine and great. They kept telling us that for 5 hours.
It is important to note that our son was not seen by a doctor during that time period, so we ask if we are good to leave.
Then (in a shocking twist), a resident from upstairs tells us our son has been admitted (without our permission) to the hospital for 24hr watch. What? How could they do that?
Our son is healthy and several hours had passed, so my husband asks for an AMA form (so we can take our son home). We know that Military Tricare Insurance gets used and abused if the hospital is not VA or military, so we thought that might be happening in this case.
The staff claimed they had no knowledge of an AMA form. That was a lie. The AMA form is a common form in every hospital that allows the patient to sign out and leave the hospital.
They called for a social worker who said our son had no health issues and agreed we can sign the AMA form. As reminder, no doctor had seen our son during this entire time at Sunrise Hospital.
Thirty minutes after the social worker gave us the okay to sign the AMA form, a resident came in and said the doctor has put an administrative hold on our son, claiming he is in critical condition and near death. What? (It seems this "doctor" is made up since no doctor has seen our son since we arrived more than 7 hours ago).
MY HEART DROPPED!
She said if you refuse and still want the AMA form, we will have to call CPS (child protective services). We are shocked again! What is going on?
I call a military attorney, and my husband calls his First Shirt to help, because they admitted our child illegally to pediatrics -- without our permission and are trying to take away our rights.
They threatened us with CPS, over and over again. Military personnel told us to say "Okay, call them so they can see our son has been stable since we showed up and prior."
They refused my son a nurse, and there was still NO doctor.
We were taking care of our son and watching him as if we were home (with almost no medical care from Sunrise Hospital). Why are we here?
They called security to take my son upstairs and hold him up there. We went with him to make sure they didn't drug him or harm him.
We were seeing a force of power that was very illegal and inhumane -- going on 12 hrs now. Still no doctor, and we saw a nurse only once.
Military First Shirt shows up to document the situation, and they witnessed a lot.
A nurse came in to try giving our son vaccinations for COVID and the flu.
Military personnel and my husband both guarded our son saying NO.
The male nurse smirked and left without answering any questions.
It has now been 14 hours. Still no doctor. The nurse came in only 3 times.
Finally, the WHOLE HOSPITAL BOARD WALKED IN WITH A DOCTOR (first time we saw an actual doctor).
The doctor checked my son's vitals and breathing, then said he's perfectly fine and healthy, and we can go home now. They apologize for mistreatment and stripping of rights. The doctor says she had no idea of anything, and CPS will not be called.
Military personnel and husband asked tons of questions and were shocked by the answers. Then we left.
And arrived at home with cops and CPS blocking the road.
MILITARY PERSONNEL CALLS ENTIRE WING FOR HELP.
This is insane!
Our family was exhausted, diapers full and kids crying, and everyone is hungry.
CPS walked through our house, nitpicking our kids and stripping them down to see their bodies.
One agent knew it was wrong. The other claims she knows a lot of people at Sunrise Hospital and said "they're my friends."
Military personnel helps with questioning. And now they will be visiting for the next 48 days. Military is helping us on the legal side.
All because Sunrise Hospital made FALSE ACCUSATIONS.
We hope this helps you make the right decision when your family needs medical care.
If you are a military family, go to the Nellis Emergency Room, and save your family from a hospital that uses force to strip parents' rights under false pretenses.
DO NOT GO TO SUNRISE HOSPITAL.
HOW SUNRISE HOSPITAL TRIED TO ILLEGALLY TAKE AWAY A CHILD IN A SIMPLE CASE OF A PEANUT ALLERGY

REMINDER: You can choose to leave a hospital. Just ask for the AMA form (AMA means "against medical advice.") Comments posted on review websites have stated that Sunrise Hospital will try to force you to stay using scare tactics such as telling you that insurance won't pay if you leave. If you are not getting proper medical care or are being harmed or threatened, YOU CAN LEAVE SUNRISE HOSPITAL and go to a better hospital (or go to your primary care doctor or urgent care, depending on your medical situation).
Just say NO to Sunrise Hospital
