Patient-269

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-269 went to Sunrise Hospital. Horrible  experience. Many hours left waiting for medical care in the lobby --- and was eventually examined in the lobby. Conflicting statements from the doctors and unable to get updates from the staff. Patient finally asked for an AMA form and left the hospital. Patient says "literally go anywhere else."

I arrived with a possible medical emergency, and while they initially triaged me quickly to ensure I was not having a medical emergency, I had to leave AMA (against medical advice) after so many confusing statements from the doctors.

I received a diagnosis from the Emergency Room (ER) doctor that would require surgery and was "admitted."

An hour or so later, the surgery team comes to me and tells me no surgery is necessary and the organ is just different from normal organs but no life threatening risks from its size.

That's fine and dandy, but I wasn't discharged after this because the hospitalist had to review my case.

After waiting another hour or so (hungry now as I had last eaten a jello cup around 8 a.m. and it was now 6 p.m.), the hospitalist comes and examines me in the lobby. She palpates my abdomen, listens to my heart rate and states they were keeping me for observation because of my secondary diagnosis.

I ask her to discharge me because no procedure is taking place and she agrees if I can eat without vomiting, she assured me I would receive food.

Around 7 p.m., I ask the front desk for updates and they state they had no information or idea on my discharge but they did give me a sandwich and some juice.

After asking for updates every 30 minutes or so, around 8 p.m., I finally get told they have a space in the back, so I will no longer be in the lobby.

I refused and reminded them that the hospitalist had told me I was getting discharged since I had eaten with no issues.

They stated it would take possible hours for this to happen, and I finally had enough and asked to AMA since that was the only way I was going to be able to go home at that point.

After I requested to leave AMA, they informed me that I actually had a dose of antibiotics I was supposed to receive and had been ordered since 4 p.m. for me.

They said I could wait another 30 minutes for me to receive the antibiotics,  but at this point, I was fed up, tired and honestly concerned by all the patients getting examined in the lobby, and I just wanted to leave.

So while I did get a CT scan and an ultrasound relatively quickly, the whole experience here was worse than some free state hospitals in Mexico --- which is a third world country!!!

If you want medical attention and don't mind having to deal with extra nonsense on top of feeling ill, go here. if not, literally go anywhere else.
