Patient-337

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-337 went to Sunrise Hospital for spinal surgery. There was a rolling bar in the bed that caused horrible pain. Patient asked for 3 days to have it fixed or removed. They finally replaced the mattress. Doctor refused to do necessary tests. Housekeeping staff was terrible and only cleaned the other half of the room. Have to remind the staff when medications are due or you will NOT get your meds.

Horrible experience!!

You have to remember to ask each shift to go round the clock with meds or they will let you sleep through a dose and you will wake up in excruciating pain.

The CNAs are easily distracted. They watch TV while taking vitals, not realizing they are holding the thermometer in their hand --- nowhere near my mouth.

The bed had a rolling feature to prevent skin issues. However, I am a spinal surgery patient, so every time the bar rolled down my back, it went over my surgery site causing pain.

I asked for 3 days to have the settings changed. I was told they could not do that. The doctor had to instruct the staff to replace the mattress.

When all else fails, a member of the PT and CNA teams tell you to pray, saying "All you can do is pray."

I requested an image of my hip because of pain and heaviness of the limb. The doctor said he did not order "unnecessary testing."

After my husband connected with a rehab charge nurse, I could tell because the team avoided eye contact. Those who did, were visibly irritated. The call made it worse.

A beverage spilled on the floor. The housekeeper entered the room complaining that she needed to do something else. She was making such a raucous that I had to interrupt my call with my insurance company.

The day after the spill, the housekeeper only cleaned half of the room. NOT my half.

I called the charge nurse myself at 9:00 a.m. It is now 2:45 p.m., and I have not heard back from the charge nurse.

There is no way to contact a resource person to respond to grievances while I am here (inside Sunrise Hospital).
