Patient-293

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-293 went to Sunrise Hospital with congestive heart failure, excess fluid, swollen legs, and high BNP. (BNP was 702. Normal BNP is 100.) Sunrise Hospital only gave the patient an injection of Lasix. No other care. Patient went to a different hospital two days later and was admitted.

I was given one shot of Lasix to relieve excess fluid from congestive heart failure.

My BNP was 702 with the normal range being under 100.

Note to readers: A B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) test gives your healthcare provider information about how your heart is working. This blood test measures the levels of a protein called BNP in your bloodstream. When your heart has to work harder to pump blood, it makes more BNP. Higher levels of BNP can be a sign of heart failure.

The resident on duty did not see the need to bring me into the hospital.

My legs were so swollen, I could barely walk.

I thought that hospitalization was in order.

IV Lasix in the patient would be the only treatment that would relieve the problem.

I was hospitalized two days later somewhere else.
