Patient-388

No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital

Patient-388 went to the burn unit at Sunrise Hospital. Long wait times to get help from nurses. Comfort and care were disregarded. An elderly woman was left screaming for hours. Absolutely terrible communication. Would NOT provide mobility devices. Room was very hot, and they would NOT turn down the thermostat. Would NOT provide a bedside toilet. Patient wanted to escape because the experience was so bad.

I was in the burn unit for 6 days and found that it takes 45 minutes (or longer) to get anyone into the room at anytime --- whether you are in pain or need to go to the bathroom.

After the first 2 days, your comfort and care gets disregarded.

An elderly woman was screaming for help every 2 hours the whole time I was there.

Absolutely terrible communication between doctors and what's allowed --- seemed to vary by how the doctor was feeling at that time.

I was told I could not leave my floor or go anywhere, although I was NOT on isolation at all.

Then I was told I could go wherever and do whatever.

Then I was told I had to have someone with me anytime I left my room.

They did NOT have a walker or leg scooter I could use.

I asked about 15 times over 24 hours for them to turn the heat down, and it never happened.

I was labeled fall risk, but I had to climb out of my bed to get to the window to open it since no one would adjust the temp or open the window.

The next day, they sealed the window so I couldn't open it again.

Why wasn't it sealed before if it wasn't supposed to be open???

I asked for a bedside bathroom/toilet for a couple days and did NOT receive one.

I did get a bedsore, but they failed to cover it properly.

I was willing to try to escape is how bad my overall experience was.
