Patient-53
No Medical Care and None of His Prescription Medications for 8 days at Sunrise Hospital
Patient-53 who received inadequate medical care, an incorrect placement of the IV so he was not receiving any pain medication, and rude, dismissive behavior from the nurses. The doctor said he was "fit to return to work" even though he could not walk. He is telling others they should insist on going to a better hospital.
07/19/24: All went smoothly until tonight when the nurse swore she got all my pain meds into the IV even though I felt it leak all over my hand. So I've been crying from pain for a few hours now; 10/10 if we're going by the numbers. I guess I better get used to being neglected while I'm here.
Update: 07/20/24: I just asked for a refill for water and some apple juice. Nurse assigned to my room told me "you might as well wait until we make our rounds, but we'll stop by."
Guess I'll just shut up and not bother them for anything the rest of the night. This nurse seemed hell bent on avoiding me for the duration of her shift as she would end each visit by asking, "will you be needing anything for the rest of the night?" Just horrible attitude.
Update 07/21/24: I think I've found the Steve Mazzagatti of nurses. Once again, it seems like she's done a lot to avoid me during her shift, up to and including denying me my pain meds which I'm being patient for whenever she says "I'm just waiting on your vitals" an hour after they were taken. Luckily as of this morning, measures were taken by the charge nurse who assured me that particular nurse would not be assigned to me going forward. So there's a plus.
Final update: I was finally discharged on 07/29. Even then, I'd received very little help after being "treated," if that's what they call it. I suffered a gout flare up during my stay, and it wasn't properly addressed so as of now (08/10) I still have lingering pain and extremely limited movement in my left arm.
Not to mention the "doctor" wouldn't allow me some measure of recovery time before returning to work as he listed me "fit to return" that very night despite me not being able to walk without assistance. The doctor seemed to be focused on the quantity of people he treated rather than the quality of treatment being administered.
My advice follows a few other one star reviews; insist on going somewhere else if you're being transferred from a quick care facility, and if you're going to a hospital of your own recognizance, go somewhere else and make sure Sunrise is the absolute last resort.
It actually pains me to speak so negatively because I've been a patient here before due to an open heart surgery and the care I received then was top notch. It's pathetic to see how far they've fallen.
11/25/25: Update - It's just unsettling to know that my particular team of specialists are contracted to operate out of this particular hospital. As far as I'm concerned, there's something fundamentally wrong with that although the wonderful staff at a different hospital assured me that I wouldn't be transferred unless emergency surgery needed to be done.
My review for Sunrise will always remain at 1 star. They're a bit too far gone as far as I'm concerned.

Patient was in Sunrise Hospital for 10 days. He was treated badly by nurses who were rude, dismissive of his pain, ignored requests for water and juice, and used an aggressive tone.
The patient advises others to insist on going to a better hospital.
Protect yourself. Just say NO if you are being mistreated or harassed at Sunrise Hospital. REMEMBER, you can leave and go to a better hospital.
Just say NO to Sunrise Hospital
