The Nevada Hospital Association (NHA) was formally established in 1960 and incorporated in 1971. NHA was created by hospital administrators to provide a unified forum for all types of hospitals to address such issues as reimbursement, worker’s compensation, professional liability, and continuing education, among others.

The 2026 NHA Annual Conference, will be held September 30 - October 1, 2026. The conference will once again be held at the Tahoe Blue Center in Stateline, Nevada.

As usual, the agenda DOES NOT contain any topics relating to improving patient care in Nevada, and it also DOES NOT include any patients as speakers on the agenda. The NHA clearly DOES NOT want to hear from patients.

This is simply an annual party and social event for hospital CEOs in Nevada.

Important note: Todd Sklamberg, the CEO of Sunrise Hospital, has been on the Board of Directors for the Nevada Hospital Association for many years (so it is not surprising that NHA took no action against Sunrise Hospital).

NHA held its annual conference, September 23-25, 2025, at the Tahoe Blue Event Center, near Lake Tahoe in Nevada.

The CEO of Sunrise Hospital, Todd Sklamberg, is in the main photo on this page (see the collage of 4 photos in the second column of this page), and here is another photo of Sklamberg posted on Facebook on October 7, 2025.

You will notice the agenda (picture 3 below) is vague and says nothing about improving healthcare for the people of Nevada.

Another missed opportunity

As we mentioned in our discussion of Never Events, one starting point would be for healthcare organizations to invite patients or family members to their conferences in order to tell their stories. This would provide an opportunity for further healing of the trauma of those events and provide detailed insight for the organizations so they could learn and improve and help to prevent Never Events in the future.

NHA was aware of the serious situation regarding Patient-1, Dr. Michael Bradford and Sunrise Hospital. They could have added this item to the 2025 agenda and could have invited Patient-1 to attend the conference and speak to the members about what happened, but NHA chose to hide from the truth (just like Dr. Bradford and Sunrise Hospital).

If you know the individuals listed below or have a chance to talk with them, please remind them of their mission (the reason they have a job at NHA):

To serve as an advocate for our members to lead in the provision of high quality, affordable and accessible healthcare services, resulting in healthier Nevada communities.

In order to do that effectively, they need to actually include programs and services aimed at improving patient care in Nevada.

The agenda items for their Annual Conferences have NOTHING to do with improving patient care.

One idea would be to include patients to be included as speakers at their annual conferences. They could share their stories about the way they are treated at Nevada hospitals and offer suggestions for improvement. Then NHA could develop an oversight process to ensure that positive changes are happening.

As the saying goes, change happens at the top. NHA should be involved, but the hospitals need to be ready and willing to remove people in their leadership team who are promoting, encouraging and supporting harm, mistreatment and death of patients and their families.

Currently, there is no oversight of hospitals in Nevada (even though there are numerous agencies who are supposed to serve that purpose).

People are suffering and dying because of the broken system of healthcare in Nevada.

Change is desperately needed!!

As you can see on the most recent agenda, there is NOTHING on the agenda that focuses on patient care.
