Patient-9

Patient was given a feeding tube after gallbladder surgery. He continued to decline and was taken to a facility in his hometown where the doctors at the local hospital discovered a serious error had been made by the surgeon at Sunrise Hospital.

This is a first-person account from the daughter of a patient who had a botched surgery at Sunrise Hospital.

This is the worst hospital I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.

My 82 year old father was brought to the hospital for a gallbladder removal. This took them almost a week and half to finally do since every single 'test' that needed to be done was taking 24 to 48 hours to complete.

During this time, they gave him only IV fluids and an IV nutrition which is not designed to do anything other than keep the body 'alive'. This basically starved him.

When the surgery was complete, he did not want to eat so they suggested a stomach feeding tube.

One of the nurses there put an IV into an infiltrated vein. When this was pointed out, the nurse refused to listen and attributed it to simple 'edema'. A day later, this same nurse put a pint of blood in the same vein. Needless to say, Dad's arm was swollen and literally bloody when we arrived to visit. The nurse hadn't even checked on him since the night before. He needed the blood so he ended up in ICU that night.

When the stomach tube was finally placed, he did not improve. He declined. He had constant and severe diarrhea from the liquid feeding. We did not understand why.

He was moved to a rehabilitation facility in his home city of Kingman. While there, he continued to waste away. They were talking about sending him to hospice, but he was sent to the local hospital so they could check on the feeding tube.

While checking the internal workings of the stomach tube, they noticed that the transverse colon was in front of the stomach and the doctor who did the surgery at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center had gone completely through the colon and into the stomach.

Dad is very near complete starvation and is now in ICU in the local hospital here.

A Bariatric surgeon has corrected this horrible mistake made by the doctor at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PEOPLE TO Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
