Patient-109

Patient--109 saw Dr. Ronald Hillock at Nevada Orthopedic for knee pain. Bad experience. Dr. Hillock told the female patient her problem was due to being "middle aged" even though the patient was only 30 years old. Horrible bedside manner.

I was referred to see an orthopedic doctor from my PCP (primary care provider) because I am an avid long distance runner and have been having knee pain for the last year.

After receiving an MRI, a benign cyst was discovered on my knee. I went in to see Dr. Ronald Hillcock (at Nevada Orthopedic & Spine Center) to get a recommendation on what he believes a good next step should be to make my excruciating knee pain feel better.

When I saw him, he looked at my MRI for about 15 seconds, looked at me, and said "This is the smallest cyst I have seen in my medical career, you are middle aged, you should probably take up swimming and quit running".

I just turned 30 years old.

I am an athlete for a living (acrobat), and I have been running my entire life.

The most insulting and disheartening appointment with a doctor I have ever had. I understand if he is not able to fix my problem, but the role of a doctor is to help:

I asked him if he had any recommendations of another specialist I could see or if there was another medical problem I could be having (tendonitis, etc.).

He continued to explain to me that I am middle aged and that I need to find a "new hobby."

I do not recommend this doctor.

And to top it all off, he had two medical students in the room, shadowing him.

Absolutely terrifying to think he is showing future doctors the worst bedside manners possible.
